Interactive performance gives life to a playing space in which the audience member not simply stands witness to action, but is its protagonist. Actors’ skills are honed to be acutely aware of audience’s desires, curiosities, and impulses. These skills facilitate an experience that goes much beyond"traditional" performance. Audience’s essential role within the playing space opens up a world in which actor and audience both play.
Immersive: a style where an audience member can walk around and explore the production, but does not necessarily affect its outcome.
Interactive: a style in which an unrehearsed participant becomes the protagonist of the performance.
-Introduction to immersive/interactive acting techniques
-Improvisation skills for facilitating audience play
-Practice in devising and generating lots of work
-Public showing /interacting with “innocent” audiences
-Experience and comfort with testing new work with a live audience
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR THIS WORKSHOP BUT YOU CAN STILL SIGN UP TO BE AN AUDIENCE PARTICIPANT
Each interactive performance workshop concludes with a final showing. This form is for those interested in participating with the actors. Your participation is vital to this type of work since it focuses on enhancing the audience experience...
The entire series will consist of three learning “modules”, each with a different focus.
Each module will begin with a “drop in” style fundamentals class, accessible to anyone. The following 2 classes will continue the work, and the development of a piece for the final showing. On the final day of each module, we will workshop a production for the general public.

Can I just go to some of the workshops?
Anyone is welcome to attend one of the fundamentals classes. However, we ask that the participants commit to all 4 sessions if they are interested in continuing the exploration.
I’ve taken improv classes before- will I be learning a bunch of the same stuff?
Improvising with another actor is one thing, but improvising with a total stranger is an entirely different affair. While some improv skills will apply, interactive improvisation is a whole new ballgame!
Do I need past experience in immersive/interactive performance to participate?
Not at all! The whole point of this series is to introduce more people to the interactive & immersive styles.
If I sign up for more than one module, will I be learning the same stuff over and over again?
Nope! While each module will cover similar ground to begin with, it will be focusing on creation and performance through a different lens. The NARRATIVE module will focus on the building of a storyline with audience participants; The MOVEMENT module will focus on non-verbal interactive and immersive techniques; the SITE-SPECIFIC/SITE-INSPIRED module will focus on letting the physical location of the environment affect and inspire the performance.
What are the public showings?
In this style of performance, the real learning begins once you’ve got an audience. The public showings will be a chance for performers to test out the techniques and skills they’ve learned from the past three sessions on a group of willing audience members. Sign up to be an audience participant.
Does taking these workshops guarantee me a spot in future immersive or interactive projects by Live Action Set or Dangerous Productions?
Nope! But both organizations definitely have productions on the horizon for which having these skills and techniques would be valuable on your resume...
